In a race where many World Tour teams and exceptional sprinters like Fabio Jacobsen and Mark Cavendish are present, seeing the white-red-green jerseys leading the pack in preparation for the sprint was very exciting. Giovanni Lonardi had a great form and only a risky maneuver by an opponent, later judged unfair by the jury, prevented him from raising his arms at the finish line. But it was just a matter of time: after a few minutes, the jury demoted Danny van Poppel, who had crossed the line first, and awarded the deserved victory to Giovanni, who is now also the leader of the general and points classifications.
